Nikon: winst verdriedubbeld
Nikon said fiscal first-half profit more than tripled on demand for chipmaking equipment and digital cameras.
Net income probably totaled 7.8 billion yen ($74 million) in the six months ended Sept. 30, up from 2.05 billion yen a year earlier and better than the Tokyo-based company's 3 billion yen forecast, Nikon said today in a preliminary earnings release.
Digital cameras such as the company's D70, which features detachable lenses, helped boost profit, the company said.
First-half sales rose 30 percent to 312 billion yen from 240.9 billion yen a year earlier but fell short of the company's 320 billion yen forecast, Nikon said in the statement.
